MadCow / UC Cleaning Products – Acid Free Wheel Cleaner.
I brought these from Madcap via their eBay sales page on an auction, so ended up a good deal, especially for 4 different products. First being tested is the Wheel Cleaner, which is an acid free version.
I used many items to clean my wheels, with the back one being always the worst due to not only brake dust & dirt but the good old chain oil which is never a fun job.
Normally I used quick and easy chemicals like Holts which is safe to use around brakes, also Paraffin which both do an amazing job of cleaning that grease and oil off, but I have found while they are great for a quick detailing, it does not prevent or protect it from new offering when back out riding. Plus it has the disadvantage of not having a great smell (especially paraffin) which lingers for days after a clean.
While I have found that this requires a little more work over the other style cleaners I have used it does seem to help reduce the amount I need to clean it after it has been done as it leaves a more protective coating on my wheels which seem to help stop the oil from sticking to the wheel again so easy.
After a few days of having them cleaned I took a second clean and I will say it was a lot easier the second time, and seemed to be less oil and dirt showing. So not a bad job I will say, it leaves a nice glossy coating over what other cleaners I have used and being acid free will help the paintwork to remain intact for longer.
The first 5 photos are before cleaning and the last 2 are showing a clean wheel using this item.
